Northern ArchitectureAre you interested in running participation projects? Are you a participation worker, educator, artist or community engagement professional? Do you want to engage young  children in decision making, to ensure that their views are valued? Do you want to ensure that planners, development professionals' teachers and architects listen and take children's views seriously? Would you like to find out new ways of undertaking statutory planning consultation that is effective, fun and gets meaningful results?

Northern Architecture would like to invite you to a free workshop delivered by Discover to be held on the morning of 15th September 2009 in Newcastle or Gateshead. Venue to be confirmed soon.

The workshop will focus on actively engaging children in design, environmental issues and regeneration. As part of the workshop Discover team will present the findings from a two year schools based project involving over 200 children in large scale regeneration through film, drama, visual arts and photography.

The workshop will include practical examples and techniques to engage children and professionals to facilitate meaningful dialogue and consultation. Discover is currently working with the major stakeholders leading the regeneration of Stratford in east London to ensure that children and their families are actively engaged in the changes happening in their local area, partners include Westfield, Lend Lease, Newham Council and London Development Agency, for more information visit our website www.designmatters.org.uk

"Retail development is all about making places that are great for families. If we can't design places where children can have fun, be safe and make a positive contribution then we can't succeed. Working with Discover,  and with children generally, has become a natural step for Westfield in our design process."

John Burton - Development Director Stratford City
